A Day In Bisbee, Arizona
I am typing this from the Bisbee Coffee Company (which generously has free wi-fi) in Old Bisbee. I enjoyed a delightfully large breakfast this morning at the restaurant inside the Copper Queen Hotel, and then investigated the nearby mining museum. I was very willing to spend the $7.50 for admission and learn more about Bisbee's mining history, but the "no picture taking" policy was a deal breaker. Ah well! Bisbee is striking similar to the town of Manitou Springs, Colorado, where I lived for four years from 2001-2005. Bisbee has a very laid-back feel with old, historic homes dotted on the hillsides - homes wealthy liberals are quickly buying and driving real estate prices up. Both Bisbee and Manitou Springs have a quaint downtown area with a very endearing village atmosphere that is practially the antithesis of suburban America. Both towns seem to be a magnet for hippies, artists and non-conformists as well, and I thought the photo above of the younger-aged hippies in the park was a great photo to show off this town. As for the rest of my day in Bisbee, I have no plans and no agenda whatsoever other than to arrive in Tucson late tonight. I did confirm plans to visit a friend in Prescott on Saturday, which should be very enjoyable. -Steve (January 18, 2007) Home - Grand Arizona Forum |
